HISTORY OF DRIVING SHOE

From its beginnings 50 years ago, around the same time the first wave of the Italian Jet Set were fostering enthusiasm for motor racing, and marques such as Ferrari and Alfa-Romeo were producing their most iconic models — the Driving Shoe’s purpose was to replace traditional shoes while driving. Since wealthy gentlemen did not want to wear a normal shoe for driving; Gianni Mostile designed this innovative model of shoe in Italy 1963, and named it the “Car Shoe”.

At first it was a shoe for the rich, because not everyone could afford leather shoes simply for driving sports cars.

The shoes popularity grew enormously by the late 1970’s, when a new mode of dressing elegantly, but informally came into style… “A very new idea about luxury” — the Driving Shoe took equal parts inspiration from the preppy loafer of the 1950s, and the Native American moccasin.

President John F Kennedy, Fiat supremo Gianni Agnelli, and International playboy and Opel Motors heir Gunther Sachs, soon became enthusiastic patrons. The rest is history, and from that point on, the Driving Shoe has become a fashionable, luxurious item available to everyone.

Spring is in its full bloom, and summer is just around the corner, it’s time to enjoy our Driving Shoe in velvety suede, exquisitely worked to showcase their natural hides, with visible seams, and the iconic rubber studs.

These luxurious moccasins prove this classic is as stylish as ever today. Beautiful and versatile, we want the world to enjoy them in any number of colours, for comfort and flair on leisurely days.
